We’d be lounging around the living room, my siblings and I, when our grandfather Georg would call: “Zu Tisch!” (“Dinner is ready!”). He had his own unique intonation of the phrase – one we must have heard hundreds of times (though we did help set the table, sometimes). He’d drag the ‘i’ up a few notes, so it sounded more like “Zu Ti- hisch.” He had a great voice.
